Motivation for the Home Worker

More and more of us have to work from home. Seems to be a good idea, but it's surprisingly difficult to work or rather get-going without the buzz and peer-pressure of the office.

I've started my own Motivation website for this reason. It filters relevant articles from various Article Websites.

Text Replacement Tools

Hi this is a repeat post., but I think these tools are so useful. When I need to type out my address. I type \xxa and my address is typed out automatically, similarly \xxe my email address (I've had to use a trick to display these keyboard macros here). I have another for an email signature. If you are a writer you can set them up to spit out standard paragraphs.

eBay Sniper Programs

Just returned from having lost an ebay auction in the last few seconds. I really wanted the item, with 50 seconds to go I bid at £87 and put a maximum bid of £100. I was the winning bidder, then suddenly I was way outbid at £128. I had forseen this and had some browser windows setup ready to accept a bid, but a fumble and it was too late. I guess that my counter bidders were using some kind of automatic bidding software called a sniper program. I must investigate them, but I fear that I would have lost anyway, as I never would had the courage to set £150 as maximum.

A description of a particular Sniper Program

Auction Sniper is an eBay sniper that automates the process of placing your eBay bid in the closing seconds of any eBay bidding auction, dramatically increasing your chance of winning. We keep it simple: you tell us what you want to win, and we snipe eBay for you. Best of all, Auction Sniper is free to try.

Who Invented the Word Dude?

Quiz: the word quiz is said to have been invented by a Dublin theater manager in 1780, who made a bet that he could introduce a totally made up word into common usage within 24 hours.

Feedback: the shortest word that contains the letters ABCDEF War: in Sanskrit, 'war' means 'the desire for more cows'.

SWIMS: the longest word that reads the same when rotated 180-degrees.

Dude: invested by Oscar Wilde to describe someone wearing 'duds with attitude' ('duds' was slang for clothes).

Hijinks: the only word with three consecutive dotted letters.

RSS

I've been hearing about RSS Really Simple Syndication or (Rich Site Summary) for a while and trying to ignore it. But drat! if I want to get this blog better known I have to get an RSS feed setup. So I look at it, seems pretty horrid, but no blogger.com do it all for you. I check the RSS settings and find they are wrong, I correct them and viola my ATOM feed appears.

Look all of this up in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rss
