Working from a holiday location

Hi,
Back home now; all in all my working away from home was a success, but once again confirmed that you are more vulnerable to disasters. It's obvious really at your home base you likely have spare cables, old monitors, you can't take all that with you. This time the not very old monitor just died, and a short piece of USB cable inexplicably failed. Luckily there was a PC shop not too far. Now I rely on a wonderful service called GOTOMYPC to remotely access my Home PC via the Internet. This means I have access to everything I need, all my data and programs. My remote PC just becomes a console. However after a few days of successful working the broadband connection to my home office, went down. So I had to painfully rebuild my applications on my vacation PC, I had just finished when BT kindly restored my broadband. I was also disappointed that I couldn't make myself get early so I could finish early, I'll have to work on that next year!

Opera's Wonderful Search Engine List
Opera has many innovative features. I love the ability to type say
"g mysql" into the address bar and directly search Google, without the need to go to Google first. Opera comes with a set of these search engine shortcuts already set up.
But I've also learned how to set up my own eg Wikipedia where I type "wk columbus" to search for Columbus.

Today I've learned how easy it is to set these up, go to your favorite search engine say to search for a description of a PHP function, right-mouse click in the Search Box and choose "Create Search" name the search say "php" you can now type say
"php ucfirst" into your Opera URL/Address bar to directly access the PHP page on ucfirst.

You can also highlight the text on any webpage and send it to the search engine of your choice (right-mouse click to select Search Engine)!!

FTP FileZilla 3.0 rc1

Ever since WSFTP messed up their GUI and also upset me by the frequent release of new identical versions requiring the re-purchase of a license I have been on the search for a new FTP client. Well I've transferred my affections to Open Source FileZilla Version 3.0 is now at RC1.

I am waiting for the feature "Remember Current local & remote Directories" to make me absolutely fall in love with it.

Working from the Beach
Hi,
Nearly everyone dreams of working and living in a holiday location, it should easy for me as an Internet based homeworker. The idea is that you go for a swim in the ocean before beginning your day.

I am trialling this life this summer vacation. There are a few difficulties: we are getting up very late, which throws off my plan of working like mad in the morning so that I can enjoy the late afternoon and evening. There are technical hitches as well, today my borrowed PC Monitor died, just like that. I've already replaced the mouse, and installed a virus checker. On the plus side I use a marvelous service called GOTOMYPC to remotely access my Home PC via the Internet. This means I have access to everything I need, all my data and programs. My remote PC just becomes a console. I use GOTOMYPC to access my PC from CyberCafes, friends' PCs etc, pick up my email, deal with any orders etc. Before I had GOTOMYPC I used to try and copy my files to a laptop, but always found I've forgotten something vital.

You can get a months free trial to GOTOMYPC by clicking here, it's essential for me as a home worker and allows me to blog you from the beach!
