VimTips History
VimTips started off in 1986 or so, when a colleague scribbled the commands i,ESC and :wq on a piece of paper. Vanilla Vi had no help function, there was no generally available Internet to seach for FAQs etc.
A few years ago a brash young colleague ridiculed my use of VI when VIM was superior. I tried it but was not impressed, why did I need colour!. One always feel threatened when a favorite application is superceded. A few months later I reinstalled it, realised that all of old vi was still there, but that many wonderful new features had been added. The learning curve was steep however, the "help" system was rather overwhelming. As I learned I kept adding to VIMTIPS and eventually published it.
VimTips Attributions
Well thanks to Bill Joy (inventor of Vi), and of course Bram Moolenaar the inventor of VIM (http://www.moolenaar.net/)
Thanks to everyone in comp.editors you are too many to mention, however if you'd like to see your name here please let me know.
Sharing Knowledge
I have always believed that sharing knowledge benefits both the donor and the receiver, like the old trick of helping others do their homework, so you got a better understanding. I've got many hours of fun out of VIM exploring ways to manipulated code and text in the most efficient manner possible.
